Urdu promotion Board of Canada was established in 1976 by Masood Khan (Editor of the Eastern News) to promote Urdu language in Canada. In 1977 he started an Urdu language newspaper ‘ Messenger ‘ with another partner and after the newspaper was ceased to operate in March, 1979, he started the Eastern News back in June of 1979.

Eastern News is the first and the oldest regularly published Pakistani newspaper in the Country.
