India to hold wargames with US in Arabian Sea - HTML clipboard

NEW DELHI, Aug 21 APP: Indian Navy will hold joint exercises in Arabian Sea with the US vessels from October 15. An Indian Naval official said India and US warships will undertake air-to-air, under-sea and warship-to-warship exercises for ten days. The US navy will field its most powerful warships led by the latest nuclear-powered supercarrier USS Ronald Reagan and nuclear submarine USS Springfield, media reports quoting him said.

NEW DELHI, Aug 21 APP: Members of Pak-India Judicial Committee on Prisoners met Pakistani prisoners in Jaipur Central jail on Thursday. Pakistan chapter of the committee comprising justice Fazal Karim, Justice  Mian Muhammad Ajmal, Justice  Abdul Qadeer Chaudhry and Justice  Nasir Aslam Zahid along with three Indian judges met six Pakistan prisoners to know their status and condition.

BEIJING, Aug. 21 (APP): New Zealand notched-up their maiden win over Pakistan in the history of Olympics when they registered an impressive 4-2 triumph in classification match and sent them to depth of disaster in the history of the game at Olympic Green Hockey Stadium on Thursday. New Zealand hero in the match was penalty corner striker Hayden Shaw, who banged in two goals on the penalty corners as his team clinched the seventh spot in the competition in Beijing Olympics 2008.

LONDON, Aug 21 (APP)- Ex-President Pervez Musharraf may never be able to live in the house he has constructed in the outskirts of Islamabad owing to security reasons, reports “The Times”. The British daily said number 1-A Park Road in Chak Shahzad looks, at first glance, like many other houses built by Pakistan’s tycoons on the outskirts of Islamabad: it has a swimming pool, a five-acre garden and a four-bedroom villa in a Moroccan and Mediterranean style.

LONDON, Aug 21 (APP)- A team from the University of Exeter’s Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies (IAIS) and Academic Services is helping to drive the British Government agenda to make more of the UK’s Islamic texts available online. Their report, User Requirements for Digitised Resources in Islamic Studies, outlines the results of an investigation into how Islamic Studies scholars use the web and other electronic resources for research.

WAH CANTT, Aug 21 (APP): At least 45 persons were killed and 80 others injured in two bomb blasts here at two different gates of Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) on Thursday. According to Pakistan Ordnance Factories Board press release issued here, that the bomb blasts occurred outside two exit gates of POF Wah Cantt about 1440 hrs when a large number of workers of POF were coming out at the time of shift change.

ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has strongly condemned the bomb blasts in Wah Cantt and termed it a barbaric act by misled people, who are targetting innocent civilians to achieve their evil objectives. In a statement, he said such activities cannot weaken Pakistan’s efforts to curb terrorism. The Prime Minister condoled with the families of those killed in the tragic blasts and expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of valuable lives.  The Prime Minister directed all concerned departments and agencies to arrest the culprits at the earliest.

NEW YORK, Aug. 21 (APP): Amid tensions with the Pakistan People’s Party, Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Nawaz Sharif has said that he would not like see the disintegration of the governing coalition which was formed to strengthen democracy, the rule of law and to restore the constitution and judges. “I would very much like to see this coalition stay in tact. I would be the last person who wants to see it disintegrating,” Sharif said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal published on Thursday.
