Aug 21 (APP): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman has
strongly condemned Thursday’s twin blasts at Wah that caused loss of innocent
lives. In a
statement issued here she said the barbaric act of terrorism reflected inhumane
nature of the perpetrators.

Aug 21 (APP): The Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani Thursday
visited Swat and was given a detailed operational briefing by the General
Officer Commanding. He met with
field commanders and also exchanged views with officers and men. He appreciated
high morale of the troops. Lieutenant
General Muhammad Masood Aslam, Corps Commander accompanied the COAS during the
visit.

ISLAMABAD,
Aug 21 (APP): Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday said Pakistan is a
fore-runner state in the war against terrorism, adding it was a dire need of the
time to confront the worst threats before they emerge. “The war on
terror cannot be won on defensive. We have to take the battle to the doorsteps
of the extremists,” the Prime Minister said while addressing at the graduating
ceremony of Crisis Response Team course.

presidency offers an opportunity to build a much more durable and stable relationship between the two nations, Islamabad’s envoy to Washington
underscored Thursday. Writing an
article in The Wall Street Journal, Ambassador Husain Haqqani reaffirmed the
elected government’s resolve to focus on the pressing economic, food and energy
challenges facing Pakistan and said it has the ability to secure popular support
to restore peace in the tribal areas and defeat violent extremists.

NEW YORK, Aug. 21 (APP): Amid tensions with the Pakistan People’s Party,
Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Nawaz Sharif has said that he would not like see
the disintegration of the governing coalition which was formed to strengthen
democracy, the rule of law and to restore the constitution and judges. “I would very much like to see this coalition stay in tact. I would be the last
person who wants to see it disintegrating,” Sharif said in an interview with The
Wall Street Journal published on Thursday.
