At the conclusion of World War I, to show her pride in the way the nation had performed, Canada created an official coat of arms which incorporates the national motto, A mari usque ad mare,  Latin for “from sea to sea”. Within the coat of arms there are symbols of France, England,  Ireland and Scotland, and also red maple leaves. This coat of arms now appears on dollar bills, official documentation and public buildings.
