The Beaver

Hundreds of years ago the Hudson’s Bay Company adopted the beaver as their symbol. Later, in 1834, it became the symbol of the St Jean Baptiste Society of French-Canadian patriots, and other organisations have also chosen it as their emblem. The viva appears on the five-cent coin and on the arms of Saskatchewan and Alberta and the cities of Toronto and Montreal.
