The Equality of Women and Men

One of the basic principles of Canadian law is that women and men are entitled to be treated equally. Although Canada is open and welcoming to other cultural traditions, the country does not tolerate cultural acts that suppress women, for example “honour” killing, wife beating, forced marriage or female genital mutilation. Cultural traditions have no mitigating influence in Canadian courts.
